Jacqui was born and bred in Zambia, Africa and comes from a music lovin’ family. From a very young age she was singing folk & soul music in bars with her sister and brother while “hippie Mom” played the piano. Music molded her family, bound by notes in harmony & tempo, all glued together in happily sung choruses. Jacqui’s love affair with electronic music started in 1994. The 90’s were like a honeymoon for her and electronic music as she traveled to the four corners of Switzerland, discovering new sounds and rhythms; terms such as House, Jungle, Drum ‘n Bass, Techno, Acid, Two Step, Dark Electro, Hard Core or Goa started to make sense to her, and the sweet trap closed on her when she bought a pair of Technics turntables in 1997. She started working in the electronic “milieu” nearly 15 years ago, at first, doing bookings for events and clubs in and around Switzerland;4 years as A&R for the Veaudoux Club in Monthey, Electropole (FR), Knock Out Festival (CH), Cameleon (CH), Markethalle (CH), L’An fer (FR). She did bookings for Num & Cadenza artists, Lee van Dowski, Quenum while working as booking agent for R-Production, managing artists such as Agnés, Volta, Masaya and Chaton etc. Through the years, her expertise has been sought by labels such as Cadenza, Mina and Supplement Facts among others and today she works as a free- lance communications agent and writer for many artists and labels.
By the end of the 90’s, Jacqui came to the
frustrated realization that the effervescence and
creativity that she could feel around the electronic music industry internationally, was bubbling, but without
the Swiss. Due to Switzerland’s small size and its 4 language barriers dividing the industry, a sort of inferiority
complex was stunting its growth. Believing that a remedy for this “mal être” was strength in unity, she was
convinced that if all the actors of the music industry could come together, natural communication would
ultimately lead to better, solid collaboration.
She naively threw herself into developing a unique concept she had contrived -EMCS (Electronic Music
Convention of Switzerland) which would take up 2 years of her life. Due to a million reasons she can now
identify in retrospect, the event, although welcomed by the industry, failed to attract the interest of the
paying public and the ensuing catastrophic financial backlash left Jacqui swearing that the divorce between
her and her beloved music industry was final.
The concept was then used by the CCC in Bern for 2 years and is still used today by VIBIC (Street Parade) in
Zurich.
